Find and claim dormant mutual fund folios
Tracing inactive folios, unclaimed redemptions and dividends, and completing transmission
Unlike shares transferred to the IEPF, dormant mutual fund units stay with the asset management company. The problem is not recovery from a fund: it is proving who the folio belongs to now.
How the asset gets here
Folios fall dormant after a change of address, a closed bank account, an incomplete KYC record, or the death of the unit holder.
Unclaimed redemption and dividend amounts are held by the asset management company under the framework SEBI prescribes for them, and remain payable to the unit holder or the legal heir.
Industry tracing facilities have been introduced in recent years to help investors and heirs locate inactive folios; where such a facility is available and appropriate to the case, we use it, and we tell you where a claimant can do the same thing without us.
What recovery involves
We search the registrar and transfer agent records against the names, addresses and PAN variants the family can supply.
We reconstruct the folio history and identify what is held and what has already been redeemed.
We complete KYC remediation, and the bank and address updates required before any payout can be processed.
Where the unit holder has died, transmission is completed on the same evidentiary basis as a securities transmission.
What we need from you
- Names, former addresses and PAN of the investor, including maiden or variant spellings
- Any account statement, folio number or old correspondence held by the family
- Current KYC documents of the claimant
- Death certificate and succession evidence, where the unit holder has died
No charge for the initial assessment, and no fee unless a recovery is made. Regulatory position reviewed 9 September 2026; we confirm the rules applicable to your matter at the time of filing.
